This technically challenging series of buildings was developed in highly variable conditions consisting of soft soils over bedrock, and excavations into hard rock. The development required the construction of shoring and underpinning of adjacent residential buildings that were over 50 years old. The complex site conditions required the development of both deep and shallow foundations, which transferred structural loads to the underlying bedrock while accounting for both the soft soils and liquefiable soils and their impact on the improvements above. Geosphere provided the original site investigation as well as ongoing engineering design consultation and construction observation services for these critical structures.
The Geotechnical challenges involved in the project were as follows:
- Deep Foundation
- Liquefaction
- Soft Soil
- Slope Stability
Geotechnical Services included the following:
- Site investigation
- Engineering consultation
- Earthwork observation and testing
- Foundation construction observation
